Role: Art Department Assistant - Concept Artist, Graphic Artist, Set Dresser
"Swing Kids" is a poignant Korean film set during the Korean War, following a North Korean soldier named Roh Ki-Soo who discovers tap dancing in a prison camp led by an American officer. The film explores how a diverse group of prisoners from different backgrounds form an unexpected bond through dance, transcending the brutal ideological conflicts of the war. Ultimately, the movie tragically concludes with the dancers being killed after a political assassination attempt, symbolizing the devastating impact of war and ideology.
As an Art Department Assistant for the project, I played a crucial role in developing the visual narrative by conducting comprehensive research on 1950s aesthetics and Korean War-era reference materials. I contributed to the creative process by designing graphics and digitally painting concept art that captured the period's authentic visual essence. Additionally, I served as an on-set dresser, meticulously ensuring that every visual element aligned perfectly with the project's overall aesthetic and historical accuracy.
