Role: Production Designer
Frontin’ is comedian Rob Haze’s debut hour-long comedy special, directed by Michael Tumey. The special delves into themes of bullying, self-identity, and the challenges of feeling like an outcast. Drawing from personal experiences, including a pivotal bullying incident, Haze reflects on how these moments influenced his journey. Released on YouTube, Frontin’ revisits his middle school and college years, seamlessly blending humor with thoughtful insights on embracing individuality. A segment of this special was also performed live on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon as a promotional release. The special was taped in Atlanta, Georgia.
In a collaborative effort with director Michael Tumey and artist Rob Haze, I played a key role in developing the conceptual artistic vision for the project. This creative partnership allowed us to combine our unique strengths and perspectives, pushing the boundaries of our collective imagination. Following the conceptualization phase, I conducted thorough location visits to assess the space and created a comprehensive art plan for its transformation. Taking a hands-on approach, I personally hand-painted the backdrop and sourced all necessary materials to bring the scenic design to life. On the day of the show, I managed the on-site setup, ensuring every element was in place for a successful production. After the taping concluded, I oversaw the efficient de-installation of the entire setup, completing the project lifecycle.
